I have just bought a PCV RS502 desktop with a WinXP Home.
Xp crashes in 1-2 days because of an attack from internet so I have installed my own winXP pro.
I have downloaded all driver from vaio site but could not find applications. (giga pocket, picture gear etc)
How can I get them?
Thanks.
Alternatively - install XP Home from the recovery disk, install the applications, perform an XP Pro upgrade install and cross your fingers. You may lose some functionality after the upgrade so be prepared to do some work to clean up the upgrade installation.
Tyger-Tyger and Kee-Lo are right. Most Sony preinstalls come with a trial of Norton Internet Security but it is the final users responsibilty to ensure that they have sufficient security measures installed before connecting to the internet and XP Pro won't in itself solve the problem you initially had.
Yes, always make sure you have protection before going online.
i need winxp pro because i have a home network and using my desktop as gateway.
i do not blame sony because of security facts.
it is totally my fault to be hacked.
but i should be able to install applications even if I use win xp pro.
also my winxp home is in german and i would like to use win xp pro in english.
cheers
Try Rob's solution - not sure if it'll work 100% though.
Funny, I don't remember seeing lack of upgradability in the promotional writeups.
You can install the apps from the restore disk if you have done a fresh install of XP pro. You need to download the Original Utilities Package from http://www.vaio-link.com/downloads/select/select.asp?l=en&m=1571#6 then use your restore disk.

Hello !
You said you didn't install any firewall...
I also own a PCV-RS502, it came with lots of pre-installed software, including Norton Internet Security which includes a firewall...:smileyconfused: [And also 90 days of free updates].
Good luck.
