Applications for Windows XP

I have just bought a PCV RS502 desktop with a WinXP Home.
Xp crashes in 1-2 days because of an attack from internet so I have installed my own winXP pro.

I have downloaded all driver from vaio site but could not find applications. (giga pocket, picture gear etc)

How can I get them?
Thanks.

The applications are on the recovery disc that came with your computer, and to the best of my knowledge there is no way to install them on their own, you must use the recover function.

Rather more importantly, can you give a few more details about this attack from the internet? Don't you have a firewall? What kind of attack is it? What happens when you are attacked? Upgrading to XP Pro will not stop outside attackers anymore than Home will.

yeah

sorry to say you wont beable to use your recovery disk to install the software alone either as pro doesnt have fbflash euntime or something and i was unable to find it

all vaio's firmware updates use it so does the bios update and it is impossible to get the recovery disk or the firmware updates to work after, installing a new os

it might be different if you upgraded though

Best using some decent firewall rather than moving to XP Pro.

I did not install any fw, so it has been hit by blaster.
anyway, i have installed winxp pro and a personal fw.

it is very silly.
i have the cd but cannot use the applications :slight_frown:

i have paid for win xp home and the applications.
i have already paid for win xp pro.

then???

thanks

buzz, you can only install the applications from the SONY Windows XP. If you install that version, and also a firewall you should be just fine. It is not the fault of Windows Home that your computer was attacked, it is because you had no firewall.

Shove Windows XP Pro on Amazon's Marketplace, someone will snap it up.

It is totally unacceptable :slight_frown:

i want to use win xp pro, not home edition.
i will contact sony and try to find a solution.

What is unacceptable? I don't mean to be rude but the reason XP Home failed is because you didn't install a firewall, which is entirely your own fault. You can hardly blame Sony.

Anyway, I believe installing Xp Home from Sony's disk, then upgrading it to Pro will make sure everything works, though I'm not 100% as I've never tried it myself.

Really what do you want on XP Pro which Home doesn't have? Do you use Directory Services ? Are you encrypting data? Are you needing specialised networking features?

As Tyger said, you can't blame Sony if you didn't protect yourself in the first place.
