Please is there anyway I can get my footage from my HDR GW55VE straight onto my ipad4 without going via iTunes, etc.

Hi bubbajohn. It is possible. But is the footage compatable with the ios system. Ipads and other ios devices only play certain video codecs.

File transfer issues aside (I think that you would need to put the files onto a computer and then transfer them to your iPad in any situation), there is an iPad app that claims to be able to play the video files that are created by your Sony camera. It is called iMedia Player by Vietmobile and it is available in the regular App Store. I cannot guarantee that it will work, but the information on the product page includes the file format that camcorders normally record to.

If you would prefer to use the native iPad video player, you would need to use software to convert to video to .mov or .mp4 format. There are various free options for doing this and these can be found by typing 'Free .mp4 converter' into Google.
