what problems are you getting?
I just tried it and it worked without a hitch for me.
Things that may help if you answered
What SSID you are using?
What computer are you using?
How are you trying to connect(WPS, input, or discovery)?
What carrier are you on?
none off my devices I have previously connected to my z3 are not receiving the hotspot
and I am not the only one with that z5 compact problem, the internet is loaded with people with same problem , glad to hear yours is working though

I have correct settings with all the above , its obvious that its the first time for me this is happened , always have had sony phones , that its a problem with the hardware in phone , a lot off people are suffering with it and Sony hasnt given a solution that works , and why should there be a solution I ask , it should just work ?? it is part off the phone when you pay 750 bucks for it??
it should just connect to myn laptop and galaxy tab, as all my mates phones still can ( I have to use their connection to access the internet ) and my other phones did as well
this thread deals with the same issue

I had contacted Sony care and they send me an mail how to repair (reset) over PC Companian , I did this before but anyhow they told me to do it again so I did . NO Success !!!

Update:28/12/15
I'm Overseas for a couple of weeks and got a Local Sim Card with 4 G
The Lady in the store set it up and i tried tethering as she tells me it is activated and will work.
I tried it in straight away ......... Still same so now a have tried to different carrier so definetly the Z5C is crap.
One reply from Sony yesterday to send y phone back in the Country where I bought it.. ..
How Bad .
No wonder the folks walk away from Sony ,coz I'll do too if not soon a fix found as I need this function most on my business trips.
Sony not able to fix this at all .No wonder Sony's Laptop off the Market ,I still have one of their latest one and there been also at beginning a WIFI issue but they fixed it with a update.
Never any Sony and not only mobile phone for me ,Ill highly will recommend other Brands to my Collegues and friend .
Thanks Sony you really CARE for your Customers
Hi All,
Error tethering Solved !!
I'm able to use the tethering now and no Error show up again.
Had a conversation with Telstra service over the Internet.
The Guy from Telstra went through my settings same as Sony Care here in Thailand but mentioned that the SIDD should be named Broadband ???.
I changed this and it not worked as expected.
He then told me togo to my Provider and get the correct settings as he quite sure the Z5 not have any fault.
I insisted him to explin me more about these settings and he came up with the below solution.
FYI
My settings I downloaded over the device it self and as mention in my earlier post I been able to acces the Internet over my phone but tethering not work.
Back to the Telstra Service
He told me then that the APN type should have included "dun"
In my orginal settings from my provider been only default, supl and not dun.
I edited these setting and suprise I been able to tether over my device.
Googled about dun and found several postings about this even some from the year 2012 which they explain what these dune mean and some additional settings to.
So my Sony friends this is a poor service from Sony Care and here in the forum too from Sony.
I suggest to ask your Bosses to get better Training,It could keep customers happy and avoid a lot of discussions and bad reputation for Sony.
here what the Telstra guy gave me with comments behind from me:
