Z5 compact error occurred during tethering

Hi guys,

So i recently bought a z5 compact (unlocked) after i finally managed to destroy my z3 compact. My phone will not tether and it's driving me crazy. Every time i try, either the normal wifi hotspot, bluetooth or usb tethering, it says that everything's connected but then says "error occurred during tethering" and won't actually connect.

Troubleshooting:
I was using the same virgin mobile sim (post paid, used in the z3 compact and temporary Xperia SP with no issues), and i work at virgin mobile so i am absolutely sure my apn settings are correct and that the setting is on in my account.

I went to Telstra where i bought the phone and they replaced it under warranty - it still doesn't work.

Im currently visiting the us and I'm using a prepaid lyca mobile sim with 10gb including tethering.

I can only conclude its something to do with Android or the Sony software. If anyone can suggest a way to fix this id really appreciate it as i desperately need tethering while I'm in the US. Thank you!

Ok, so Bluetooth is off?

I can show you the error messages when the laptop tries to connect via bluetooth tether and the display it shows when it's a pure WiFi tether.

Yep Bluetooth and Bluetooth tethering and USB tethering are all off, it just straight up won't work!

When you go search for the network on your laptop, what can you see?

The network on the left is a pure Wifi Tether, the network on the Right is a Bluetooth tether

NB-Z5C

If you see a similar SSID to the one on the right, then there's something wrong with the phone.

If you try to connect to the bluetooth network, without pairing the devices, you will get an error on connection.

The one to look for is the SSID on the left.

I don't think the SSID is the problem because 1. I've changed it a couple of times 2. the SSID worked totally fine with everything in my last couple of phones 3. it shows up as normal in the WiFi on my laptop (the name is "Warmspot" and it just shows up as normal). Basically everything looks exactly the same as normal tethering connection except the error message and the fact that it doesn't work.

I take it you're up and running now?

What OS is your laptop running?

EDIT:

Now we get to do some cool stuff...

Turn Bluetooth off, and just enable your wifi hotspot using the shortcut you made in the quicksettings.

Then go to

Settings>About Phone>Status

Get the IP Address here....
If there's no IP, then there's something wrong.... the next step is to manually hook your laptop up to that IP

another option after is to USB tether

Hey! Okay I have the IP address, how can I manually hook it up?

Same for me here.

Just bought a Xperia Z5 C

tried a couple of days later the tethering and the error with tethering came up, checked all settings (APN from my providr etc.)

I'm able to connect to my laptop but no internet access even sometimes it shows that internet access established.

But no website can be opened at all.

Sawped the sim card with the one from my wife (xperia Z1) and the same issue ,tried my sim at her phone all ok no isssue at all.

If i tether with bluetooth (my Sim card) on the Z5C then I'm able to connect to the internet and to the web !

done already a factory reset but still same issue .

I was actually a "Die Hard Nokia" fan and after my wife convinced me to get (due previouse phone size to big on other brands)

I decided to get the Z 5 C, which suites the size perfect for my use.

Hope this purchase wasn't a mistake, so I hope Sony or some one here in the Community can tell me how to fix this issue as i need the tethering for my work frequently.

thx

update :

today 24-12-15 got notification from Sony that  a software update (v. 32.0.A.6.200) available.

done the update. STILL SAME ISSUE  !!!

slowly get fedup with Sony and consider to sell my Sony Vio Pro too and both of the Xperia (Z1;Z5C)

Did Sony not care at all to fix this problem???
