can i upgrade the cpu from xl202??
i want to change the faster cpu
Please HELP
i think the heat is more than E6400, but not too much!!!
the fan speeds.....i thinkas same as before!!!
by the way, i know you also want to upgrade your graphic card, any idea???
Hi,
Thanks for feedback! For the graphic card upgrade I thought first to use the all new 9600GT but it doesn't work with the original power supply! Not enough power and the card need a power connector that is not avalaible on the power supply! A new power supply with the same size will be very difficult to find I think!
The second problem with this card is that is not a passive card. With this performance we will suppose that it will be very hot and in the same time the fan will turn very fast and...with some noise! I don't have any idea if the heatsink from the orginal 7600GT can be adjust on this card like IT Troll do with the 8500GT.
So for my computer, I'm going to update CPU next mounth and normally at the same time I will replace the hard disk by 2 Samsung F1 640 GB in Raid 0. There are the best sound/price/capacity choice for the moment (in my opinion). For the choice of my graphic card upgrate I think that I will take a 8500GT like IT Troll because it possible to adjust the original heatsink with small modification. I'm just waiting is feedback when he upgrade his VGX with blu-ray player to know if the card works fine in this job!

Many thanks for doing that. My 6300 is currently sat at 42'c so your temps are very respectable.
I bought a used E6700 on ebay to upgrade my 301 to the 302 spec CPU for 65 quid, rather cheaper than buying one when new. Like many other Vista boxes it's a worthwhile upgrade to a 4Mb Conroe chip over the lower clocked speed 2Mb cache 6300 model, it feels far more responsive in all areas than the 10 percent the Vista rating claims, I'd say 15-20pc. Operating the Media Control plug in to control subtitles and audio streams while playing HD X264 files in Vista Media Center doesn't stutter any more which was a mild annoyance with the E6300.
CPU temp is 44 degrees which is impressive - but I reckon that's thanks to using Arctic Silver thermal paste.
I've just completed an E6700 upgrade on my XL201. It went very smoothly and was quiet an easy upgrade compared to the modding I had to do on my graphics card. My temperatures have actually dropped! After watching a DVD, CoreTemp was reporting 34'C compared to the 42'C I was getting with the E6300. I can only put this down to the minimal application of Arctic Silver I gave it compared to the gunk that the E6300 was smothered in.
Just a warning to anyone planning on upgrading their CPU, changing your CPU will break your Digital Rights Management (DRM). Luckily none of my music collection or recorded TV (Freeview) are protected and so they are fine. However my media streaming (Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service) did stop working until I performed a manual DRM reset. If you have protected music or premium channel TV recordings proceed very carefully or you will lose them! More details here:

Hello everybody!
It's done !!! I just buy a E6700 CPU on eBay and I'm waiting for the delivery! I was decided after I read all of your message and feedback about it. Now, I'm planning to change the hardisk inside (a 500 GB Maxtor very noisy!) by two Samsung F1 640 GB in Raid 0. I think it will be fast and silent! In the same time, I will buy the MSI 8500 GT like IT Troll. By the way, I didn't know the exact size of the power supply. Do you think that this one will be fit in the frame?
