can i upgrade the cpu from xl202??
i want to change the faster cpu
Please HELP
In theory you can install any socket 775 processor but other restrictions in the hardware may prevent the increase in performance you would expect.
Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16GHz or Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz should fit but I would check to make sure and also check the cooling arrangements are adequate. I am not sure if it will be worth it though.

Hello,
I make a topic recently with almost the same question but I still not receive any answer!
I believe that is not possible to upgrade with a CPU new generation that burn in 45 nano because
the motherboard is too old. When I upgrade my other PC 1 year ago with the CPU E6850, I need to
upgrade my BIOS of my Asus P5K Deluxe because the CPU was not supported with the old BIOS.
Even that the motherboard was release 3 months earlier! So, I think that the motherboard can only supported
CPU of the same generation of the original but wichone can be install, I don't know and I hope that someone can
help us!

Looking foward to hear from you soon!!!!
I hv try to upgrade to E7200..........but can't boot the bios.........................
anybody help??
Hello,
I'm pretty much sure that it can't be works because the motherboard doesn't support new CPU burn in 45nm.
The motherboard is 2 years old, almost 3! So in my opinion, you can only use the CPU of the same generation than the E6300. The E6400 works on other VGX, normally it will works with yours. At the same period, there was released the E6600 (2,40 GHz) and the E6700 (2,67 GHz). I don't know if they works but I'm also intersting to have an official Sony answer! I just remenber that I make a computer for my brother 1 year ago with a E6600 CPU, so I will try it one day on my VGX-XL201 and I tell you if it works!
A+

I think the official Sony answer will be this is not a user upgradable part so we are not going to tell you. I think they only sanction memory and hard drive upgrades performed by the end user.
My guess would also be that anything up to the E6700 will be recognised by the BIOS as they are basically the same CPU.
Good NEWS!!!!
It can support E6700!!!!! works great!!!!
HOPE can help you, brother!!
Very interesting this news!
I want also upgrade my CPU and I would like to try the E6600 from my brother computer.
Now, I know that the E6700 works so I think that I'm going to purchase one on eBay!
Thanks for your information! By the way, is the E6700 produce more heat that the original CPU?
Did you heard more the fan than before or not? Thanks for feedback!

That is interesting news. The 6300, 6600 and 6700 all have the same voltage range and a TDP of 65W. Hopefully that means they produce roughly the same heat.
