Like a lot of camcorders on the market, this camera can either be run directly on mains power or you can charge the battery while it is on the camcorder if you are not recording at the time. The reason for this is that the camera itself uses the available power for recording and there would not be enough surplus power to charge up the battery as well - this would only happen when the camera is switched off.
If you wish, you can purchase an additional battery and an external charger so that you can have the spare battery charging while the other one is in use on the camera - these are available from various retailers online.
