I'm trying to copy files from my Handycam to my PC but despite following the installation instructions to the letter the PC will not recognise the Handycam. This is the only usb device I have had a problem with so I'm ruling out a PC problem.
Your help plese, thanks.
Remove codec packs like K-lite or simular.
On PC install Direct X 9- there is free download on net
Turn of or pause fire wall or Your sicurity program in time of transfer
Use I link cable... protocol IEEE1394
Set up play-edit mode on Your camera
Open Windows Movie Maker and go to first fuction, left....chaptering from video device
If still not reckognise cam, install latest FW update for Your grafic card
Cheers

These are USB based only so iLink solutions would not operate.
Open the Device Manager with your Handycam on and connected to your computer (if the option for connect to PC is on the screen, make sure you select it).
Scroll down the Device Manager to Universal Serial Bus Controllers and see if any USB devices are showing any errors. Right click and uninstall all of them and then restart your PC leaving it connected and see what happens.
