Hi, I have a Sony hdr-cx115e which I have been using without problem with imovie for about a year now. Suddenly, last week my mac stopped recognising any movie files from the camera. I have changed nothing in either the mac or the camera. The import window appears as normal but the thumbnails are all blanked out and the clips appear with their numbers followed by .mts.
imovie just ignores them, quicktime and iphoto just say these are not movie files. I got a friend with a PC to put the files into a dropbox via his computer and its the same from there. My camera is therefore currently useless.
Any advice would be most welcome.
Hello maximus.toe - Welcome to the Sony Forums
Although you have said that nothing has changed within the Mac computer or the camera, is it possible that there may have been some kind of automatic update to the Mac software that occurred without your knowledge? I am not a Mac user myself, but I am aware that this can happen with other computers.
Aside from that, I have noticed that there is a similar thread on the official Apple support forums that may be of interest - it discusses the importing of movie files into iMovie. It doesn't discuss any kind of sudden issue that has worked OK previously, but it does discuss a precise method if importing the movie files and the way that iMovie creates thumbnails which are recognised by the software:

Hi Simon,
Many thanks for your response. I checked out the thread you guided me to and its useful. I suspect you're right though, my mac is changing and updating without my knowledge. I connected the camera again tonight and a new window appeared which I have not seen before which allowed me to import the files into imovie. Its still not quite right as I can't view the files in dropbox (which I can view on my iphone!) and the 'no name' import window is still all just blanked out.
Seems as though something else has updated which means I'm a wee bit further forward.
Again, thanks for you quick response and pointing me to the other thread.
Max.
Hello again
That's positive to hear - if you do get any further with it or have any other questions then please let me know.
Thanks,
Simon
