I have had the new Xperia Z for two days, and am trying to transfer videos onto the phone. But
when I try to transfer it across to the phone it wants to convert the file to a compatable format for the xperia, this takes considerably more time to transfer the file.
The videos Im trying to move across are already MP4 therefore i cant understand why it doesnt recognise the file type as being compatable and wants to convert it first.
Is their special requirements for my videos for the phone to recongise the file as usable and compatable and thereby removing the need for it to spend vast amounts of time converting the files first?
Thanks in advance

Does it matter what type of format it is ie fat32 etc
Z can only support Fat32.
Here’s the thing. Yes the phone only supports fat32 memory,
1. for whatever reason puting videos from you pc onto an SD card will take you forever if you want to do it that was (due to lack of micro SD adapter) you have to put it on the phones internal memory first and it will prompt you to transfer it across to the micro SD or you can go settings--->storage--->transfer data to SD.
2. As long as the files are mp4 the phone shouldn’t have any problem with reading the video file.
3. The set up I have which works perfectly is £10 64gb micro SD + free micro SD adapter (class 10) I put the video straight onto the micro SD then mount it in the phone. The phone will take a few minutes to recognise the file but once that done your fine. IF the phone says can’t read file it’s often due to the phone not yet ready or the SD card has been fully mounted and read yet, simply wait a minute or so then try again.
4. The speed (class) of the micro SD is vitally important as it determines the speed of data transfer which is vital for the phone to read the file at sufficient speed to play the video.
5. The 64gb micro SD is a NFTS format but there are plenty of free software that allows you to format it to fat32- I read that the phone can format it itself but I don’t know for sure.
1. that applies only when you're connecting your phone via MTP. Mass storage wil transfer faster since it doesn't do anythign else.
2. Or any video format that the default player support.
3. This is due to Medaserver not updating its database. The reason copying is slow when u're on MTP is because Android(mediaserver) will update it's database at the same time. Thats y transfer is slow, but your videos(or music files) will be available immediately after copying.
4. False. All classes of SD cad have the same Read speed. Copying from the SD doesn't matter. "Faster" SD (higher class) means that the write speed is faster. Which means only when you copy data into the SD. For our phone, it would be redundant since all write is done in the internal memory. Even if you do copy files from internal to external often, the speed difference is negliable in daiy use.
5. I dun see any otion for format sd card in Z as well. Only erase. so I'm not sure if this is the same.
