So i am facing the same problem as you... Did you manage to solve it if yes please try to help me...
It started on top, then it goes on the bottom, now my usable screen area is only 80%. Since Sony never take ownership of the problem, and it is not me alone who face this problem, I know that my next console and smartphone is definetely not Sony.
According to several Japanese forums, there had been many reports on touch screen issues ( due to swollen batteries?) of Z3 and Z3 Compact.
It seems that Sony Mobile Japan and Japanese wireless carrier Docomo did accept free repairs even if warranty was expired as long as there were any other issues like water damages on the phones.
In any other Countries, Sony Mobile won't accpet any claims after warranty is expired and they won't issue any Android security update on these devices ( Last update was May 2016).
Unfortunately, there are no solutions unless its screen ( and swollen battery) get replaced.

Do you have some links related to this posts/information?
Ok my Z3 down bar does not work.
The micro SD plug got wrong (the card does not hold, had to put tape on it)
The headphone jack on the phone side progressively did not work too
The rubber seal of the port slot covers got wrong and I had to replace the slot covers several times
The original micro-usb lead was cheap an I had to replace.
All of that despite I'm very carrefull and don't use my phone that much.
WHAOU the price was pretending a high end product! (500€ in 2015, that's a lot)
It's sad because it was a good phone basically
New month, new problem, now the usable screen area is only 60%. Bringing OTG adapter and a wireless mouse everyday is no joy.

My top pull down notification and 3 bottom button doesn't work. And until recently got system ui errror and the screen goes black.
Glove mode does help resolving the 3 bottom button issue, but the screen sensitivity feels strange.
Still it's better than being stuck with these problems.
I use dropdown status bar and easy touch. However, easy touch doesn't seem to have the back button.
Tried Drop Down Notification Bar but will probably delete this and stick to the other app instead.
Since this phone is probably way past it's prime i'll wait for the next xperia compact, screen replacement is not worth it - and no guarantee it'll solve these issues.

IMO... another Sony phone is not worth it.

Could you explain please how to know if battery is swollen?
Swollen batteries is the CAUSE for unresponsive screen? How so? (Please explain)
And to get swollen batteries, you are not charging the phone right? (As with my case, first phone I had to ever have this happen)
MINE has gone like this today anyone had any joy fixing it
To fix this, its screen needs to be changed.
In Japan, this is a well discussed issue at websites like kakaku.com.
If you read Japanese, you may google "タッチ切れ, Xperia Z3"
People talk about how they got fixed their phones at docomo shop or Sony for free of charge.
I think theory of swollen batteries came from wording on docomo's phone manuals.
Newer manual for XZ3C with Android Marshmallow says something like " As battery gets older, it may start swelling. If swollen battery cause malfunction, warranty repair will not be applied...", but original manual with Lollipop says nothing about swollen battery.
Whatever the cause of touch panel issue is, SONY will not do nothing for us.
I wonder if this happened to Samsung or Apple phones...
