Sony z3 compact xperia back and home button not working

I am using z3 for almost a year and dint have any issues. Since last two updates i am facing two problems.

1. The drop down notification menu does not displays properly when slided over from top to bottom

2. Back and home button works once in a blue moon. Previously they were working great. Now i will have to try for more than 25 times to make that happen or restart the device.

Please let me know if this is a software issue caused by the latest software release or is there a way to bring back the old version of software. Eventually i need a working software and not this piece of ugly software quality.

Please respond when this issue will be resolved.

Currently using that Shake opener. Very helpful.

Though having no top side of your screen is pretty irritating as you can't use apps that need to click some part of your screen in the top (ie. Instagram).

I have same problem. But it started when I use guest option the first time, one month ago, then soft keys didn't go anymore while they are in lower side of movile, if I turn movile and buttoms go to upper side (under sony logo), it works right. Yesterday, I had an other problem about movile auto turns off with high battery and I returned to fabric devices and the return button problem followed not working. I tried Nova Launcher solution, but I found it didn't work. After long time searching for solution I found in play store an app named: HANDY SOFT KEYS, it puts to right side a menu with return, home and apps buttoms, only needs to give permision on accesibility. When I need give some permisions to order apps (because I have to configuration all an other time) I need disable it for a few time, but it is a little problem compare to don't have return buttom.
I hope this app help us while Sony don't give a good support. After reading this forum I don't think that I send my mobile although I am under warranty.

Also say that the oder probem with auto shutdown has not been solved either.

Yesterday the problem occurred to my z3c too. Softkeys are gone! i've tried factory reset, xperia companion software repair, reset button... what should i do? i have more or less 6 month of warranty, should i bring my phone to Sony customer care?

Yes, bring it as soon as possible. No other reliable method exists and you are lucky if you have valid warranty.

I switched to another phone (of course not Sony). I think it's interesting, that the Z3C's touchscreen is losing more and more responsive area every week, unused in the drawer. It started with 0.5cm on the top and bottom, now it's 2cm.
Workarounds like setting the Navigation bar to 150% or floating buttons may not help permanently.

I'm no expert but the following worked for me.

It seems an app was installed or upgraded that invisibly smothered the screen and prevented interaction.

1. Goto Settings / Apps / Settings (cogwheel) / Draw over other apps / Change all the apps to "No".
2. If you have installed the "Back Button" app, goto Settings / Accessibility / Back Button / Turn off.

The above got it working again - just.
Then goto Settings / Display / Glove mode / Turn on.

Worked a treat. Good luck.

Tried for the apps that'd allow it, didn't work. Am I missing something?

Whole last year I have expirienced differend display glitches with home and minimize button and sliding top menu but it did fix itself after some automatic updates or phone restore.

This time the phone became completly unuseful, all my bottom buttons have stopped working at once and restore won't help anymore. I don't want to wait another 3-4 month to get them fix it.

From all my previous experience I believe it is a software issue. Sony just do it again and again and doesn't learn any lessons out of it. The updates should be well tested before they release it.

I'm going to switch to cyanogenmod and see if it does help.

There are more then 30 pages of complaints here from different users about the same issue but looks like Sony sadly copmpletly ignores it.

Sony z3 compact xperia back and home button not working

I love Sony products very much and user of Sony mobiles & TV's, Music Systems for more than 15 years and for last couple of years i am losing hope on Sony products since my Sony LCD TV had display issues and i have scrapped it. The TV was just 3 years old and now facing problem with Xperia Z3 Compact

I bought Z3 Xperia Compact a year back at Sony Centre, Annanagar, Chennai and to my surprise they have sold me a secondhand piece and within 10 days i faced an issue and took it to Sony Authorized Service center where they disclosed in written stating that the mobile has been already serviced before 4 months and after lot of fightings they replaced me with a new one after 40 days.Its been one year now and facing toch screen issue. Surprice to see 34 pages that too with same issue.

More over a week back want to replace the SD card plug cover for which the service people told me only if i surrender the phone they will place order for spare and the beauty is they may take atleast one week or more for replacing a simple spare and till the time the hand Set has to be remain under Sony Service center. i was even ready to pay the demanded amount as advance and still they never accepted myrequest.

Sony is no more my favourite product.
