my home/back bar was getting unresponsive for a few days and finally stopped working altogether two days ago. I did a software repair using the pc companion. only wiped my settings but problem still persists.
i've had my Z3C for about 2 years now and last year before the one year warranty expired, my drop down menu stopped responding and i had the phone sent for repair under warranty. now a year later, the home/back bar stopped working and my warranty has long expired.
after reading through the posts here, it seems like sony just doesn't want to admit that there's something wrong with this phone. how could there possibly be so many people with the same sort of problems if the phone doesn't have an innate fault in the system (either hardware of software). i take very good care of my phone. i charge it using the charger it comes with. i use a phone case to protect it from drops and bumps. i love this phone, it's just a shame that it's failed me twice now beyond my control and also really disappointed that sony isn't doing anything to fix this.
I have same problem. Both the notifications & the back/home buttons do not work. The drop-down notifications stopped working around a month back and now the back/home stopped working a couple of days back.
Looking at the thread, this looks like a combination of hardware & update causing this problem. A couple of queries to learned members who have been replying and helping out people facing this issue -
* Can/would reverting to an older version of Sony update work? And if yes, how can I?
* Has anyone tried any custom ROMs like Cyanogenmod? Does that fix the problem?
Xperia: D5833
Android: 6.0.1

So so far the official SONY response is that it is a hardware issue.
But look at my (and most people's) situation:
The problem is known to happen after a year or more
so If I do send my phone for repair (I am lucky to have 2 year UK warranty) When I get it back its going to happen again after a year or so?
Also I moved from the UK but my warranty is UK so I have to send it and receive it back from the service centre at my expense... (@ 40 euros one way and 40 euros back)
for a bit more I can buy another phone - and probably not a SONY...
Whats needed is an update to extend the detecting of the swiping up and down (as it does on the lock screen hence why it works there)
The same story! D5803, 6.0.1, 23.5.A.291. Top and bottom areas of the touch screen are inactive (exactly equal to the navigation knobs panel heights). I did not spill something on my phone nor drop it nor step on it etc (that is what Sony support tries to persuade me. and they are very happy to replace it for the halfprice og the new phone). Actually I am paranoically accurate user. I am absolutely sure that the Magic happened during the night time when I was sleeping. Thanks.
Hello.
Same thing here. Back-home-recent buttons not working. The one after the other stopped working.
The phone is not even 1,5 years old and still under warranty. I've sent it in for repairs, but is now already 2 weeks "waiting for parts to arrive".
The local retailer where I bought the phone already warned me about Sony's warranty repair service. They tell me it can still take a long time.
A very unhappy customer.
Hi
the same issue here. Sony Please help us!
I took my D5803, 6.0.1, 23.5.A.291 to sony service 3 weeks ago for this problem after 1.5 years of use and still waiting for the repair. As soon i will have news i willl keep u guys updated but guess the only thing u can do is to take it to service as soon as u can if ur still covered by waranty. Cheers
