Sony z3 compact xperia back and home button not working

I am using z3 for almost a year and dint have any issues. Since last two updates i am facing two problems.

1. The drop down notification menu does not displays properly when slided over from top to bottom

2. Back and home button works once in a blue moon. Previously they were working great. Now i will have to try for more than 25 times to make that happen or restart the device.

Please let me know if this is a software issue caused by the latest software release or is there a way to bring back the old version of software. Eventually i need a working software and not this piece of ugly software quality.

Please respond when this issue will be resolved.

Got the same problem today - bottom buttons stopped working. Camera, Lock and Voice Recording buttons on lockscreen works, but Back, Home and Menu does not. Phone buttons worked yestarday and stopped working this morning.

Hey guys,

been following this page for awhile since this happened to my phone straight after I updated to marshmellow.

- First the back and home button werent that responsive, then stopped working altogether.

- I sent it off for repair under warranty and they replaced a few parts and now it works fine with marshmellow, so I think it is a hardware fault. Otherwise EVERYBODIES phone would not work anymore, or would not work instantly.

Although that part of the screen did seem to work in landscaped and on the lockscreen, i think the area of touch for the back and home bar is smaller or something. There was probably a dead spot

Is there someone that currently has the issue and has received recently (in my case few days ago) a notification about the availability of the new version of the "update center"?

I'm sorry to hear that you feel worried about this happening again.

It has been investigated internally and the information i have is that there's nothing in the software that could cause parts of the display to stop working. It's recommended to first try a software repair using Xperia Companion to make sure nothing went wrong with the software installation but if that doesn't help, it's not software related and the phone needs repairs.

Let me rephrase the above:

  • We cannot solve it so it cannot be a bug.
  • If our software repair function cannot help is it must be hardware related.

Redicuclous! What kind of logic is that!?

Here is a strong suggestion that it is NOT A HARDWARE problem:

When activating the phone, before unclocking it, I am still able to use the bottom of the touch screen (where the home and back button are located when the phone is unlocked). The voice-cast and the camera button are working. So that part of the touch screen is not broken.

Now after roughly 2 weeks the problem is getting worse. I opened a complain at my resident country. It is a shame to let customers alone regarding a failure which is clearly related to product design!

Hi,

I made sure to highlight/bold parts that'd seem true for everyone.

Update to MM > touchscreen SUDDENLY becomes defective

for your case, you sent it to repair so it's like this:

Update to MM > touchscreen SUDDENLY becomes defective > Sony REPLACED parts > now it works in MM

I believe the parts are not meant to work in MM, basing from that.

So is it our fault that we updated our phones that WILL NOT BE ABLE TO WORK IN MM?

I still refuse to pay for repairs/replacement (ICYMI, warranty period is over for my phone).

Edit: also, in case you didn't notice, all the people here have this problem, so it's true "EVERYBODIES phone would not work anymore"

Cheers

Me too with the same problem.

If you turn on the glove mode, the buttons are working and the phone is at least usable. So I doubt it's a hardware problem!

Someone suggested that Software update app might be the root cause of it. It installed automatically few days ago and soon after the problems started.

Took my back to vodafone shop, was sent away and got it back today.

The IMEI number is still the same but it is clearly a new phone (the cover over the charger connection is a lot stiffer then it was, its also come back with the covers on the front and back that you get on a new car) i've got as it came back with software version 5.1.1 and i've done 2 updates to get it to 6.0.1.

If its still in warranty take it back.
