@Rickard thanks.
I still believe it's a software hardware combination of problems so hopefully Sony can fix the software because otherwise my new phone might get the same issues soon.
I'm sorry to hear that you feel worried about this happening again.
It has been investigated internally and the information i have is that there's nothing in the software that could cause parts of the display to stop working. It's recommended to first try a software repair using Xperia Companion to make sure nothing went wrong with the software installation but if that doesn't help, it's not software related and the phone needs repairs.
Maybe your phone get worst... My phone started like yours, after some weeks, the screen does not work anymore...
Hi everyone
this is very disappointing, i had the same problems like everyone here... i updated my phone to the last Android update (in January 2016), then the notification bar, the back button and home started to work bad.. After months of using my phone with "globe mode" it died and never came back. I did everything recomended here and all around the internet, but nothing recover my phone.
The last thing i did, is to use the my pc to reset the phone but it did not work. Now im stuck at the "Welcome screen" of the google account because the screen stopped working
I sent a email to sony developer division to get any answer and i received this:
"Hi Leonardo,
Thanks for your email.
Sony engineers are currently looking into this issue, in the meantime you may revert your update or contact your local support.
Best regards,
Developer World"
I have no support here in Argentina and i have no warranty for my phone... this is disgusting, i feel like a hostage of this company because no one can resolve the problem. The best solution they can give to us is "please check to connect your phone to the Sony Pc Companion and try reset your phone..."
Im thinking to buy another phone (not a Sony obviously) but before this, i would like to know if anyone has try to repair the phone changing the full display module. If someone did that, please, let me know because i would like to keep it
Thanks to all!
A question to those who have got a problem. How did you apply the latest update ? OTA or using the Xperia Companion ?
Just wondering - could it be OTA related issue ?

Yes, the update was installed by OTA. I was in KK.
Before applying the OTA update I had to upgrade (necessary) the application that (I suppose) manage various updates (sw version and various app that are natively into the z3c).
And, if my head isn't falling so much, after this upgrade the touch issues started.
That was the first time I was forced to upgrade the component.
Now, just this morning, I received the second notification: I'm forced to upgrade again the component in order to be able to update other sw parts... Is it only a coincidence...?

Yesterday after having the problem for a week i took my phone to a Vodafone shop (phone still in warranty) and its been sent away for a repair.
The manager in the shop had not seen this problem before and said it seemed very odd.
Will update when i get more information/phone back.
My brother had the idea that it might be a driver issue, he is just hoping it doesnt affect his Z5.
I am experiencing this issues also after an update. Possibly a slightly different error as no one has yet mentioned that whilst the back, home and open apps buttons dont work, on unlocking the screen all three buttons ( voice assist, unlock and camera ) all work perfectly well which tells me the screen area is fine and the fault is limited to the navigation interface and whatever wraps that all together. With this evident i find it VERY hard to believe as it is a hardware issue, infact it would be a waste of time trying to convince me it was.
Another interesting thing i notice is that with glove mode on when im trying to hit the navigation bar it quite often activates the drop down from the top. my guess is the interface and whatever workings go along with it is not configured to the exact screen specification properly? It's like the screen has slipped down and the bottom has linked with the top ( software wise ofc! )
a fix would be lovely. any help sony? I have reset using pcc, multiple factory resets and nothing makes a difference ( for those suffering this issue i assume you had 0 isses getting back into phone after a reset? those next and back buttons are in the fault zone right? so its software? else you would have been stuck at setup not getting into android.
cheers
Hi,
Does anybody have this symptom? I run display diagnostics from the support menu and I can see brighter spots on the all-white test screen around these problematic button areas. Could it be any connection with this problem? (sorry for the bad picture, these spots are much brighter in reality)
