Sony z3 compact xperia back and home button not working

I am using z3 for almost a year and dint have any issues. Since last two updates i am facing two problems.

1. The drop down notification menu does not displays properly when slided over from top to bottom

2. Back and home button works once in a blue moon. Previously they were working great. Now i will have to try for more than 25 times to make that happen or restart the device.

Please let me know if this is a software issue caused by the latest software release or is there a way to bring back the old version of software. Eventually i need a working software and not this piece of ugly software quality.

Please respond when this issue will be resolved.

To all:

I sent my phone back under warranty and got a brand new one within only 5 days. The problem (notification pull down bar mostly not working, and back button not working) is solved.

This may seem as though it was a hardware issue, but I still think it's a combination of hardware and software.

I think some phones were affected by a software update and others (maybe newer made phones?) were not affected.

Let's see how long my new phone keeps working.  In 1 week I won't be under warranty anymore.

If your phone still has warranty bring it back ASAP.

If not, keep complainig to Sony because I do believe it can be solved by a software fix.

The bottom buttons on my Xperia z3 compact stopped working ever since i installed android 6.

if i turn the screen to landscape mode, so that the buttons appear on the other side of the screen, the buttons do work

i already tried most of the things i read online, such as diagnostics (the screen works just fine) i already did the whole system repair via PC companion and the buttons still don't work. i'm really in a pickle here since i can't really use my phone comfortably, i have to close apps by going in landscape mode, which not every app supports

also funny thing is, the buttons work 1 out of 30 times or so if i click them enough.

i'm probably gonna go to the shop today but i figured it was worth a try to ask here

i appreciate any kind of help! Slightly_smiling_Face

This might strongly suggest that you have a hardware problem, you should indeed visit a Sony support shop or contact your Local support.

This is happening to z5 compact now. Home-button, recent app-button and notifications not working. Happened after my phone had been turned off for a day and laying still. So I doubt the display has been damaged while it lying still and turned off.

Just had a read of the above messages.
Turned off glove mode and had a try of the buttons, nothing when holding phone, place phone flat of the desk and the home and square button work moat of the time, back button those doesn't respond at all.
Worst part is the lack of info from Sony. Looking more likely I will be taking mine back to the Vodafone shop as it's still under warranty till the middle of October.

Hi, I have the same problem. Turn on glove mode and it works for now at least.

Hi everyone, I think the only way we're going to get Sony's attention on this is to log a ticket with support, be as descriptive as you can with the problem, include all details about your phone and the version of the OS you are running and also reference this thread

I'm located in Australia so my support page is located here: http://support.sonymobile.com/au/xperiaz3compact/contactUs/mail/?region=en_AU

The USA page is located here: http://support.sonymobile.com/us/xperiaz3compact/contactUs/

I couldn't find the other pages, but just Google "sony xperia support" and that should get you started.

Sony are either ignoring this thread, or have seen it and are aware of the problem but haven't got an official answer on it yet, either way - communication is lacking and disappointing.

I've discovered that my phone still has a few month's worth of warranty left so I'm going to try that route.

Good luck.

@Vincent35

Glad to hear that you got a working phone again Slightly_smiling_Face

This has beed forwarded internally for investigation again and in case a software repair using Xperia Companion does not help, it's not software related. In this case the phone needs to be sent to an autorized service centre for repairs. For more information on where you can have the phone repaired, please contact your Local support.
