Sony z3 compact xperia back and home button not working

I am using z3 for almost a year and dint have any issues. Since last two updates i am facing two problems.

1. The drop down notification menu does not displays properly when slided over from top to bottom

2. Back and home button works once in a blue moon. Previously they were working great. Now i will have to try for more than 25 times to make that happen or restart the device.

Please let me know if this is a software issue caused by the latest software release or is there a way to bring back the old version of software. Eventually i need a working software and not this piece of ugly software quality.

Please respond when this issue will be resolved.

I have the same problem. after the Marshmallow update 6.0.1. my top screen began to stop working.. needed to go to setting to activate my wifi and bluetooth. now after a few days. my Back, Home buttons doesnt work.. to SONY please dont send us System updates that ruins the phone... i have read the threads before i register to your site just to send comment. and please yes i have used PCC, sony repair. backup and restore. removed my new screen protector as per instructed. contacted your "support" (which i only recieved a dont reply on this mail and your complaint number is ****). Can sony check the poblem of the system update of 6.0.1. or atleast try to downgrade it to Lolilop version while the bugs and problems area being fixed. we also have work in our personal lives. and trying to apply your suggested methods didnt work. Like most people who purchased sony, we hoped that the quality we trusted over the years will still be implemented today.. -a very very unhappy Sony Consumer

I have the same problem, when I run the diagnostics for the proximity sensor it is ON all the time. So I guess that some thing the last SW update, big time. Either the sensor "just got a bug" in the code OR its crapp now.

And as it appears here on the support forum, Sony is neglecting us... Maybe time for a Apple 7

Try this.  It worked for me.  The problem I had was the home and recent apps buttons not working and I couldn't pull down my notification/status bar.

1. Download/Install/Open "Nova Launcher".
2. Long press home screen, select widgets.
3. Create a nova activity.
4. Scroll till you find Setup Wizard.
5. Look for SetupWizardTestActivity.
6. Click on the icon you just created.
7. Run through setup.

I've got this problem with my Z3 Compact now. Just one year ago I'd got the faulty motherboard fixed. New problems keep popping up with this phone. Sony makes people pay premium price for cheap quality products. I could have picked up an iPhone or a good Samsung for about the same price, instead this horrible phone. Never buying a Sony product again.

After the latest software update I experience the same issue. At first the touch screen was extremely sensitive. I have been able to resolve this by going into Settings – Apps – Running apps and force stop com.sonymobile.touchscreen.touchfilter.tfpss.

However, since two days I can no longer use the home, back and folder button at the bottom of the screen. If I hold the phone upside down the buttons apear at the top of the screen and then it works. But this is not a very convenient solution...

I would expect software releases to be thoroughly tested before going live. However, something went definately wrong here. Sony please send another update which will make things work again!

As proposed by the Sony helpdesk I have uninstalled the latest software update. However, this does not resolve the issue!!! And you will loose all your applications from your phone, so I do not recommend this!
Please come up with a better solution to get this resolved!!!
