Sony z3 compact xperia back and home button not working

I am using z3 for almost a year and dint have any issues. Since last two updates i am facing two problems.

1. The drop down notification menu does not displays properly when slided over from top to bottom

2. Back and home button works once in a blue moon. Previously they were working great. Now i will have to try for more than 25 times to make that happen or restart the device.

Please let me know if this is a software issue caused by the latest software release or is there a way to bring back the old version of software. Eventually i need a working software and not this piece of ugly software quality.

Please respond when this issue will be resolved.

As PeterZ3 wrote, this is not SW issue. I have my phone still in Warranty and I sent it back to local dealer/service. They replace half a phone and now is working perfect.

Here is a list of changed parts:

- 1289-2687 Front Cover Assy Orange & 60; MRC

- 1288-6132 Adhesive Vib

- 1284-3428 Adhesive WB Window Back

- 1288-0468 Adhesive PBA

- 1284-3258 Shield Camera

- 1284-4550 Panel Side Charger Orange

- 1284-3482 Cap USB Sub Assy Orange

- 1284-3487 Cap SIM Sub Assy Orange

- 1287

So it looks like the problem is in toch panel and they replace all body. So unfortunately waiting for SW fix will not help... If you loose warranty, the only solution is new phone.

Hi,

I Don't think this is a HW issue.

I installed easy touch app, turn my smartphone to horizontal position and put the easy touch icon on left part (where home button is normally placed)

When I tap on the easy touch icon, it works.

I moved the icon to every position on this left part. same result.

Another think to test :

when lockscreen in "on", you can tap on microphone or camera or locker icons, and everywhere between the 3 different icons. the response is ok (try to see your fingerprints on the screen).

I'am facing the same issue with my phone now after a recent update my back home and recent button are not working even my drop down notification unless I use Line Launcher now for temporary solution I'am using an app from play store (home screen soft key app) its just frustrating that this is an issue since october last year but it seems that sony has no solution for this problem I just love my phone I never drop it even once

It's now hw man.
I can use paint apps to test all the screen. And it's working fine.
And at the lock screen i can see response from the cellphone when i press in the dock icon's area.

I suffering from this issue from last week.Is this issue extended to other parts of the display?

This is quite ridiculous. I have the same issue as everyone here but a slightly different experience. 

I've had this phone since January 2015 and was very happy with it. However in October last year I started a new job and they gave me an iPhone to use. I wanted to keep my personal phone and phone number so I've had it plugged into power and sitting on my desk at home, forwarding calls and texts to my work phone since then. I left it automatically running app updates and installed OS updates when I've been alerted about them.   

I picked it up today to try a couple of apps and failed to slide the notification window down. Then I found the home/back/app buttons not working at all.

Reading through this thread it looks like there's a LOT of people with the same issue. It's either a massive coincidence or a software /hardware fault on a particular batch of Z3 compacts.

• The soft buttons work on the lock screen.
• The temporary fix for this (mentioned earlier in the thread) seems to be to enable Developer Mode and then switch on Show Touches and enabling Glove Mode.
• Together these tweaks make the phone usable again, just not nearly as responsive as it used to be.

Very disappointing response from Sony on this.

Happening to me now....I'm on Android version: 6.0.1 and build number: 23.5.A.1.291. Done Diagnostics (touchscreen) few times but results stated "PASS". Hmmmm....

Now I switch to Glove Mode....it's working, I mean in Glove Mode. This is weird....

Any solution(s) on this matter? Anyone or from Sony please...

Hi, It's hapenning also to my Z3 compact,

no home, back and "recently used" (soft) button in vertical orientation,

VERY, VERY unpleasant user experience since,

it happened while i was using it, difficult to link with any specific updates,

6.0.1 android

23.5.A.0.575

French localized phone, using it happily since end of 2015,

SONY, please propose a fix quickly ! it's not a usable phone with that bug !

I have exact the same problem on my Z3 Compact. Touchscreen works fine, even with the diagnostics test and with the screen locked, but the three buttons at the bottom just won''t function since my last system update (Android 6.0.1).

It's harsh that Sony hasn't issued a fix yet, as I can see there are a lot of people with the same problem.

Same Problem here - after 17 month.I decided to make use of the 2-year warranty and will send my phone to Sony for repair today. Will keep you updated...
