Further to my previous mail, I've pulled down an app called Screen 911
Run this and take the following:
TEST TOUCHSCREEN
PRECISION THE TOUCHSCREEN
You get a red and white grid. This works *perfectly* in the navbar section of the screen responding to touches in that area correctly.
Which, once again, suggests something screwy with the OS.
Thanks for the info, josback.
To turn on Developer Options, go to:
About phone
Click on Build Number a few times until you become a 'Developer'
go back a menu ( to parent Settings).
You will now see Developer Options just above About phone.
Having enabled 'Show touches' I can see that the H/w is not detecting the touch correctly in the Navbar area.
It's slightly above the icons - so still doesn't reliably work.
However, this gives us a clue as to why Glove mode works a little better as it uses a wider area for touch (but is frustrating in general use).
So, again, this points to an O/s issue rather than H/w. At least that means it's fixable without expense!
Cheers again, josback.
UPDATE: Setting developer options and using screen 911 shows that the screen test as mentioned above does NOT fully extend to the bottom of the display.
Still an O/s issue?
Hi !
Same problem.
Home + Back button and pull down notification bar not working few days after the system update
Model D5803
Android version: 6.0.1
Build number: 23.5.A.0.575
Kernel version: 3.4.0-perf-g43ea728
Baseband version: 8974-AAAAANAZQ-00109-59
When I execute a screen test from the *#*#7378423#*#* menu, the top and the bottom of the screen don't detect touching.
Help us Sony
I'm in South Sudan, back and home button refused to work. I activited the glove mode which was working well for atleast 2 weeks but now it also stopped responding.
I noticed in one of the posts that Location was enabled. With v5.0 I'd disabled this but looks like v6.0 enables by default. Certainly turn this off as a known battery killer. I am getting better life but no where near as good as with 5.0
Finally, although Back Button works fine, it does NOT work when you are in the camera app. I.e. you can never get out!!!!
So, I also use Handy Soft Keys which works within the camera app ( I don't really need both but I prefer Back Button apart from not working in the camera).
Sony, hurry to give update!
hey,
same problem here since yesterday my z3c is now 1 1/2 years old. i'm running a
model D5803
android version: 6.0.1
build number: 23.5.A.0.575
kernel version: 3.4.0-perf-g43ea728
baseband version: 8974-AAAAANAZQ-00109-59
never had any issues with lollipop, also not right after upgrading to 6.0.1. this spring. the problem appeared gradually over months and weeks: first it was like "hm, didn't get the home button right" once in a while, then the home button stopped to work completely about two months ago. i read around, and what worked for me was disabling "tap on wake". that was a pity, but well then no tap on wake. home button finally was working again.
over the last days i realized the drop down notification bar was behaving slow. it reacts, but it "drops" very slooow. restart of phone didn't help.
now yesterday evening while reading in a news app, home button, back button and the third one down there suddenly stopped working completely.
restart. no change. shut down. no change. read around and tried save mode. no change. tried "developer options/input/show touches" which made the display going nuts showing flickering pink squares all over the screen. disabling didn't help, only restart.
kept the phone shut down over night and booted again this morning. no change.
currently the buttons only work with glove mode, but i fear that it's a digitizer problem of which i read about somwhere else. so as soon as possible i'll back up my stuff, try factory reset and pc repair, and in case that won't help i'll have to contact my reseller and/or sony to get a new touch/display unit or whatever they are offering as a working solution.
@sony support: what actually _is_ the problem, and is sony working on a fix? i'm so sad... and angry -.-
trying that procedure makes the back and home button work on my z3c, but not the recent button. and it's actually not a satisfying solution for daily use. but thx for the tip anyway
i still hope there will be a solution without having to send my z3c in, but i fear i will have to -.-
