When playing. Mov files with the pre-installed Sony Movie app there is no audio.
Is there a setting I can change to fix this?

Please be aware that there is no problem with the device, there are only certain video formats supported natively in the device. Please check page 13 of the below white paper for your device:

Try MX Player. Haven't tried .mov, but had the same problem with another file. MX Player fixed it.
Thanks for your advice.
MX player plays .Mov files ok, using either hardware or software decoders.
The reason for creating this thread is to advise Sony there is a problem with their app so they can address and fix.

Thanks Sam.
So yes, according to the white paper the tablet does not support .Mov files.
So why does the Movie player app not provide a message such as "format not supported". This would be much more user friendly than it appearing to be able to play the file, but without audio, leaving the user frustrated and wondering what is wrong.
Also intersting is that when using MX player with only hardware decoding selected the audio is played. Showing that the device actually does support .Mov files but it's the movie player app that doesnt.
Sony still needs to address and fix this, its pretty poor if they dont!
It is complicated. You may wish to have a bit of a read through the below link and this will go into the licensing etc involved with getting this particular format to be supported by the software.

I had the same issue but then i exported my quicktime MOV files with the same video codecs, but changed the audio to AAC.
this worked perfectly on the Xperia Z3 compact for me.
