Wireless Connection Problem!

I'm hoping some of you clever lads can help me! I've got a Sony Vaio PCG-7G1M and the wireless on/off switch got damaged a while back. We have wireless broadband but on my own laptop I have to use the DSL cable. Anyway, I'm currently looking at moving into a new place which has wireless broadband available and I'm wondering is there any way of enabling wireless on the laptop without this button as I can't afford a new laptop!

I thought I had solved this - I went to Device Manager>Network Adapters and enabled Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection..

but

when I search for wireless networks it still asks me to make sure the wireless switch on my laptop is on!

Anyway, hope that makes some sense.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hi PatRollingStone and welcome.

Do you have an icon like one of these in the taskbar area in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.

if so try double-clicking on it and the Wireless Device Switch window will open.

Make sure 2.4GHz Wireless LAN has a tick in the checkbox to enable it.

If this doesn't work you may have to resign yourself to having the switch repaired - or you could buy an inexpensive PCMCIA Wireless Card like one of these and put it in your PC Card slot: -

EDIT: By the way you are quoting something like the chassis type - not your Vaio model. Have a look at the screen surround or the box and you will find the Vaio Model - something like VGN-FS415M
