Is anyone else experiencing probkems with the TV tuner on their Vaio. I am on my V2S and I am sure it is a software issue, as sometimes under the device manager "Unknown PCI Device" or "Multimedia Video COntroller" will come up, but Sony Support say it is hardware.
Does anyone know if this is hardware or software? I am sure that if many people have problems with the TV tuner then it is likely to be software. If it it software, then how can the drivers be installed so I have a unctioning V2s again??
Many Thanks
i have just the same problem. tv is not working at all (if you start up vaio-zone there is just no tv)... sony has so far no idea, if it's a hard- or software bug. i don't have any hardware faults in my system and i downloaded every update possible (over 350 mb's!) and of course the antenna cable works on my other tv... there is just one thing i'm not sure of: should'nt there be a tv-card in my hardware (i don't see any)? or is integrated in the geforce fx 5700? it's really a pain in the... spent at least 5 hours already... any help more than welcome! thx!
just spent another night trying to fix that tv... but my tv still does not work... here is a list of strange errors that occur:
1. sometimes (about ervery 3rd time i start up) i get a message, that a new PCI device has been found... but no drivers will work and i have no idea what kind of device has been found (everything seems in order)... with a new setup, the "new" device disappears...
2. if i try to intstall tvtv i get an error message, that vaio zone is still in the channel setup and that the setup has to stop... in vaio zone you can't setup anything in the tv section (because there is none!)
and that is what i tried so far:
1. full recovery with drivers on my pc
2. full recovery with new drivers from sony
3. complete update of all possible programs (vaio zone, launcher, etc. downloaded more than 350 mb)
4. uninstall of vaio zone and new install with recovery disk
5. tried several drivers for the geforce fx 5700
...
has anybody the same problems? does anybody know, what pci-device it's looking for and where i get the correct driver?
This seams really strange
You have tried almost everything even recovery
After having done the recovery try the Vaio Zone TV (don’t install any other software apart from Vaio Zone), if it doesn’t work then you better contact Vaio Link.
Keep us up-to-date with how you are getting on
I believe that the component is the "Sony MPEG RealTime Encoder board", which used to appear in my device manager. After a complete system recovery (as advised by e-support) it disappeared and so fif the TV option in Vaio Zone.
It is the fact that you are experiencing an identical problem that makes me believe that this is a software error that Sony should have fixed a long time ago.
sony support told me today, that they do have sometimes these problems with the tv after a full recovery... so far, they do not have a clue... but they promissed to work on it and give some advice... well, we'll see!
tried 2 full recoveries again (one from the harddisk and one from the dvd's)... and yes: still everything's the same...
keep you posted - any help in the meantime: fire away!
