Matshita DVD with VGN-A115M under Win2000

I recently bought the Vaio VGN-A115M which has the Matshita DVD writer UJ-820D. After changing the operating system to Win2000, the eject button doesn't work anymore. Does anyone have an idea how I could get the button to work or where to find drivers? The Sony download site doesn't seem to support Win2000 drivers and I wasn't able to find them on the web either.

Have you tried getting Win2k drivers direct from the Matshita site?

I wasn't able to find the official Matshita site and neither could I find anything on the Panasonic sites (apparently Panasonic produces the drives). Due to the lack or incorrect functioning of several other drivers, I have given up and reinstalled Windows XP, although I was a lot happier with Windows 2000. The laptop seems like an excellent and very high-quality computer to me, but I find the poor driver support from Sony very disappointing.

Put XP in Windows Classic format and you have 2k anyway

you have to install utils.exe. it's for your notebook buttons(volume,...) so you can the eject button only in windows.
on your dvd drive should be another small button. you can open your drive everywhere.
you get the utils.exe from sony downloads

I have tried the utils.exe several times. It says on the Sony page that it is a WinXP program, but it installs anyway. However, it doesn't get the eject button and the control buttons (volume, brightness, etc) to work. Even if I can learn to live with the kindergarten-look of Windows XP, it is still way too slow and too unreliable for me, so I really want everything to work under Windows 2000 (no matter how many times I have to reinstall it).

You don't need to have it look like a "kindergarden" OS at all.

Switch to Windows Classic, use the classic start menu and it looks just like Windows 2003.

And it runs faster too. XP is more stable than 2000 in most cases anyway.

Hmmmm... I disagree with that. So does anyone have any ideas where to get Win2000 drivers for the controls from?
