Correction: The newer VAIO's don't have infrared. The older ones do.
Solution: Buy a USB infrared adaptor.

Oh sorry that solution was incase you didn't have an infrared port.
If you do have one go and check if you have turned you infrared port on. and there are no conflicts.
Go to your control panel and there should be an infrared icon. click it and check if you have turned it on.
I think you can also turn it on in your SONY VAIO NOTEBOOK SET UP.
Good luck.

My daughters PCG F305 (years old) has infra red, which is quite useful at times, but I guess that it is just old technology now - just like floppy drives.
Having said that, old technology is often useful. If your optical drive fails (as mine has) and you need to boot to DOS to try and sort things out, without the old technology or expensive alternatives, you are jiggered!
Come on Sony try to consider the used and not just your profits!!

You are right though Rich, infrared is old hat now.

I agree to an extent Kee-lo but I wonder how much this has do do with the manufactures rather than the user.

Oh I think it's a manufacturers idea, the user was probably quite content with intrared until they shouted "here's bluetooth"
