Fan Doesn't seem to be working?

errr....the fan went weird on my VGN-A217M this morning, the notebook is still under warranty, what do I have to do to see if the fan is still functional and that the computer isn't over heating, without opening it up?

Is there some kind of diagnostics page on Windows XP which tells the temperature when the fan comes on etc?

Help is kindly appreciated!

You can monitor the temperature with
Mobile Meter.
The page is mostly in Japanese, but just click on "You can download latest MobileMeter from here".

Thanks Rich!

The CPU is at 90 degrees celcuis and there is no fan working at present is this a cause of concern?

It most certainly is - that is a critical temperature!! I suggest that you contact Sony asap. and don’t use the notebook until it has been sorted.

Yes I would turn it off asap and call Sony - you could cause damage to it running it like that

Thanks guys, keping a close eye on the temperatures. (Running at 50degrees c at the moment)

I purchased the notebook from SonyStyle -Europe, tring to get in touch with them to arrange a courier to pick it up, so far not so good.

Anyone know anything more about claiming on the guarantee?

Hey Kee-Lo, remember you from the early days on this forum when I had that old brick and you reached 10k/20k posts.

haha. Damn some crazy post counts!

Sent Sony Europe two e-mails, Both explaining the problem(s) and how I should go about it, no replies from neither.

Then just before - I spent a good twenty minutes waiting on the service line...Sony Aftersales support is cronic bullshit.

Anyone know who I should contact to get this repaired under Guarantee? Properly loosing patience here.

Klint play around with the power adjust properties by switching from performance to adaptive and back that might sort it. Keep an eye on the temperature bigtime so you don't fry it.
