I have a VGN-FS415E and I'm using it as a method of recording and producing songs. I've had the same problem in every application I use to record sound - there is prominent crackling sound and throughout the waveforms sudden muting occurs for no more than a couple of split seconds and then it reverts to the normal crackling.
I've used a variety of mics in an attempt to troubleshoot, but the problem is definitely with the sound card or something internal. Also, I must also say that I've tried to modify as many variables within these applications I'm using to try and sort the problem out (e.g. change sample rate, quality settings etc...) Interestingly the Windows sound recorder seems to record and playback without any disruption in clarity.
I need someone who uses their laptop for recording to let me know what the problem(s) could be.
