Anwy suggestions how I can fix this?

Welcome to the forum
Grab a paper clip and use it to release the door by poking it into the hole next to the cd door button. Go to vaio link and get the latest updates and fingers drossed that will fix the little bugger.:smileywink:

Hello all!

Thanks for the replies, they are gratefully received as I used the forum as I couldnt get in touch with Sony - they are useless!!!

In answer to your questios:

Yes there is a CD in it - ironically a Sony Ericsson CD!
The model is VGC-V2M!

Thanks again!

Apologies, wrong model! VGC-V2S!

I managed to open the door with the aid of the paperclip (thanks for the tip!) but any ideas on the main updates I need? There are so many to select and I know that my VAIO Update is up to date' - will the updates help?

Seeing as the machine is within its warranty, should Sony not be informed so they can fix it? Mind you then you have to call them for about an hour at national rate!

There are a number of things that Support will ask you to do before accepting it for repair.

First, try re-installing the utilities, you should find Utils.exe in C:\Utils, if not the pre-installed utilities can be downloaded from Vaio-Link.

Next check Vaio Link for an optical drive firmware update.

If that makes no difference carry out a full system recovery by tapping the F10 key during boot. Make sure that you back up all your data before doing this as the drive will be formatted.
