Why is this functionality now enabled on the EU models? Network standby works but it uses over 30 watts of power while in standby and the unit stays warm to the touch the whole time. My old Yamaha amp from 6-7 years ago supported wake on lan and used virtually no power while in standby.
Hi,
I'm in Europe so I guess my receiver can't do WOL. If it is an option, will it require a cabled connection or should it work over wifi as well? Which app do you use to wake it up?
Thanks in advance
/M
Not sure if it would work over wireless as it means the wifi adapter would need constant power. There's no reason why it shouldn't work via the ethernet port, it's just been disabled at a firmware level on the European model for no obvious reason.
I have a non EU model, and I used the sample java program listed on this website: http://www.jibble.org/wake-on-lan/
It worked fine. I can't remember if it works with both WiFi and Ethernet though.
Do you have any updates as to why this feature isn't enabled and whether we can get it enabled on the EU model?
The "Remote Start" setting (aka Wake On LAN, or "wolMode" in the API) can actually be enabled via the Sony Audio Control API on EU devices, however this is deceiving as it doesn't actually activate it in the hardware on EU models.
If the network card hardware is identical for all regions, it should be trivial for Sony to implement this in the firmware. Without being privy to the actual reasoning behind this decision, from the outside there seems to be no justification for disabling Wake On LAN for EU models because this feature uses very little power!
Hi Allanp81,
I'm not aware of any new releases or change that have been done to the player recently.

Hi,
@The_Black_Rose Do you work for Sony? Your reply doesn't seem to bear any relevance to my question regarding getting proper wake on lan functionality on EU models.
Hi Allanp81,
What I meant was that since the feature isn't available and Sony hasn't released an update or posted an official article then no changes have been made.
Cheers,
