We have a Sony home theatre system BDV-E490. Is it compatible with a Toshiba tv?We connected it up with a HDMI cable but can’t get any sound from the speakers,except when playing a Blu ray disc.

Looking at your manual (page 44) it should work as long as your TV has a HDMI ARC port. Look for Audio Return Channel (ARC).

Have you turned on Control for HDMI on both TV and DVD Home Theatre. No idea on a Toshiba TV but it might be called CEC or similar. Perhaps you could try a new HDMI lead.

Also remember you have to select Audio System on the TV to change from TV speakers to DVD Home Theatre. Obviously not a Toshiba TV help forum but if a TV manual is available on-line I’m sure somebody may be able to help you. What is the full model number of your TV?

After days of trying,my hubby has managed to get the sound through the system. Thankyou for your advice on the subject. It wasn’t the same without the speakers working.
