I have just bought a Sony PRS-T1 second-hand.
The soft/virtual keyboard will not appear!
This means that I cannot WiFi it - cannot input the password - not can I do anything else of note other than load and read books - it may as well be a PRS-650!
I can find no way to rectify this.
I know of no way of forcing it to accept a reload of the firmware, when the Sony software/site via USB sees that it is up-to-date. Sony confirmed this on the phone.
A hard reset -

does not work 😞
HELP! please 🙂 I have really important uses for these devices. Les.

I have returned it this morning to the vendor - he reckons he can exchange it with Sony - I hope all this works out without too much loss for me...
That's probably the best option to be honest, hope all goes well..

Hmm, not sure I would recommend anyone try that solution if their reader is still within warranty..
Hi STEMPublishing,
I heard of something like this before & as you have purchased your T1 second hand the previous reader may have been messing with the readers software, which would probably void the warranty..:smileysad:
If you've tried troubleshooting via Sony support then we may not be able to get any further..
Can you check if you have the latest firmware installed.?
When you the hard reset did not work do you mean you were unable to reach the 'Would you like to execute 'Factory Initialize' screen..
No, the 'Factory Initialize' worked properly - but it did not restore the keyboard.
A friend has suggested this procedure:

but I think I ought to return it to the vendor and let him do whatever at this level. If I do it he may consider that I have made the problem - or made it worse 😞
The reader seems to work absolutely perfectly apart from the loss of the keyboard - but then I have been unable to get into the browser as I cannot access WiFi, or other features!
It is hard to imagine that there is anything seriously wrong . . . but how to sort it....
Unless there is something obvious I'll have to get it back to Sony (Hopefully through the vendor).
Any other ideas are very welcome!
thanks, Les.
As mentioned above can you check if you have the latest firmware installed.?
On the Reader, press the Home button.
Onthe Home screen tap > and then tap Settings .
On the Settings screen, tap About and then tap Device Information .
In the Device Information screen you should see Version 1.0.04.12210 displayed.
Sorry, I thought that I had answered that.
Yes it came with the latest frmware.
I tried to re-install it from Sony over the top - but it would not as the installer recognised that it was already there!
That was my next step - a re-install - but I am stymied on it.
I asked Sony about this and they said there was no way round it.
That is why the link from mobileread.com is of interest.
I just see that I mentioned it in my original question 🙂

Hi,
I know you mentioned that the firmware wouldn't reload but I just wanted to check the your Reader actually stated that the correct firmware version was installed..
