Sony PRS-T1........terrible problems. Again!

My PRS-T1 does not work.........

When I came to read it tonight it had the message..."THE APPLICATION CONTENT MANAGER HAS STOPPED UNEXPECTEDLY. PLEASE TRY AGAIN". It was unable to open any book without this message appearing. I tried to let it FORCE QUIT. I tried repeatedly for over an hour.

I have tried a RESET............same symptoms.

I have tried to RESTORE DEFAULTS via the menus.......same symptoms.

I have tried FORMAT MEMORY...........same symptoms.

Finally, as a last resort, I have attempted a FACTORY RESET. I have had cause to do this at least 6 times since I bought th PRS-T1 when it was launched in the UK in late 2011.

HOWEVER.....despite undertaking succesful FACTORY RESETS in the past, this time it has failed.

At the stage where you hold the 2 buttons whilst the unit is loading, the same message appears ("THE APPLICATION CONTENT MANAGER HAS STOPPED UNEXPECTEDLY. PLEASE TRY AGAIN"). Therefore, the factory reset is unable to reach the stage where you release and press the 2 buttons. Effectively, the factory reset is unable to complete.

So, I have tried to upgrade the software...BUT....when I connect the PRS-T1 via a USB cable the ereader is not recognised on my Mac and I am unable to upgrade/reinstall the software. It does show the same message though ("THE APPLICATION CONTENT MANAGER HAS STOPPED UNEXPECTEDLY. PLEASE TRY AGAIN")

Basically, my ereader is knackered. Cannot reset, cannot reboot, cannot reinstall.

Any suggestions folks?

After 3 previous Sony I think the time may have come for a switch to Kindle.

Thanks for sharing. I was thinking of buying, PRS-T1. I guess I have to stick with my Kindle Fire.

Have you thought of actually returning it to the seller under the Sale of Goods Act, as it's faulty ?

And it's their responsibility to sort it out or replace it ?
