PRS 650 after two years of working perfectly has suddenly stopped charging

Hi All,

I have my prs 650 for two years. Never had a problem before and yesterday I noticed it had dropped down a bar on the power, which was funny as I had charged it over night and it was fully charged. I charge it via the original usb cable that came with the reader and I am charging it via a dell laptop. Last night I plugged it into the DEll and left it to charge. This morning I got the message " Charging complete" when I unplugged the usb cable I found the power had dropped another bar.

Two weeks ago I was on to by last bar of power and I decided to charge it in work via a non sony usb cable on a PC. It would not charge, though when I got home it would charge on the lap top with the sony usb cable.

What are my options ?

Try a mains charger - it's a better option than the PC, as sometimes the PC/laptop can actually drain the battery.

The main's charger is a more consistent method, you can simply leave it on overnight, you won't "overcharge" it, and it works on all models.

Non-Sony chargers can do the job, [N.B. but NOT anything Apple-y, they aren't compatible ! ] but need to be the same spec as the Sony one - some phone chargers have apparently been used successfully. [ Again, NOT Apple stuff. ]

If no joy with a wall charger, you probably have a duff battery and need a replacement - hard to find, and since it's difficult to do yourself anyway,  probably need to contact Sony to do it.

Sadly, it aint cheap, and quotes I've heard of make it more economic sense to buy another, they are out there, or go T1/T2.

Thanks carpetmojo,

I went to a sony stockist and tried to buy a charger but they were out of stock. they kindly charged the reader with a charger they had for their own sony products and it worked. I have a charger on order, again thanks !!!
