Lost Notes on PRS T1 after sync

I have a PRS T1 Reader. I read a book and made lots of highlights and notes. After a sync to my PC I went back to my book and found that all of my notes and highlights had disappeared. Why did this happen? How can I preserve my notes and highlights on my reader?
