Although the battery suffers if i leave Wi-fi on I love the convenience of being able to search the internet for references while I'm reading, but I can't do this when Wi-fi isn't available. I have a tablet that is tethered to my mobile and it occured to me that it might be possible to do the same with my ereader. Is there a way?
Thanks for coming back with an answer so quickly. I suspected that the answer would be 'no' but it was worth asking the question. I also like to know 'why' and that's been answered fully too, Thanks very much.
my pleasure
No, I'm afraid not. The reader only supports infrastructure network connections, not peer-to'peer ones, which are offered by smartphone when used as internet gateways. On the contrary, tablets and laptops are usually configurated to recognize an ad hoc wireless connection. As a result, the Prs-T1 cannot even see such networks.

I tethered my PRS-T1 to my smart phone with no problems. I have a HTC Desire, I just set the phone to it's Wi-Fi Hotspot mode and then told the PRS-T1 to search for avaliable networks, and it found the phone with no problems. All I had to do then was enter passwords on both devices as directed by them. Now I can browse the internet on my PRS-T1 using my phones internet connection anytime, when I switch on the readers Wi-Fi it automatically recognises my phone and connects to it. I don't know if other smart phones Wi-Fi Hotspot modes work differently to the HTC, but I can say that it is certainly possible if you own a HTC phone. Do you own an iPhone by any chance ? Because I am aware that Apple seems to like to restrict connection between other non Apple devices for some strange reason...
same for me i can easily set up my htc phone to be used by the prs-t1. i buy and download books from kobo this way at work if i need a new book to read. another good reason to avoid apple
Hi,
I wonder if it is possible to use the reader in the other way specially as WIFI transmitter for my old PC without a WIFI equipment?
Anny suggestions?
Thanks for this info. I'm away on holiday at the moment but I'll try this when I get home at the weekend. I have a Nokia E-72 phone, not an iphone so hopefullyit'll work. I'll let you know how I get on in a few days.
