Solved! Go to Solution.
Valentine, I fear you are still misreading my replies - I refer only to the source you yourself referred to, and asked opinions on. The "US import "tag, and "seller refurbed" related solely to the items you asked about - no misplaced assumption on my part, but on yours for assuming I meant all US imports.
And may I explain that you may well be aware of warranty pitfalls, but others on this Forum may not, hence my highlighting the problem for the general "readership", as something to think about.
Unfortunately your action in deleting your original post, now almost completely removes the chance of others reading the specifics of your query, which obviously raised some interesting points.
Hopefully some useful information can still be gleaned however.
Suffice to say it concerned some cheap T1's advertised on ebay as new, and from a reputable British concern.
And I am a little mystified in the launch into the Sony shop territory, which wasn't raised by either of us !
However, I agree with your opinion, although I have no need to check for the absence of shops, as they went long ago around here, not just Essex !
But I don't know if you, and or other members, are aware that the "Sony Shops" are in fact nothing to do with Sony Corp - they are completely independent concerns that simply sell Sony goods - they merely get their supplies from Sony, and have no more connection than that. [Although there's probably some fee for using the name in the title]
Like any other electrical goods store, in fact.
[ OH, AND THANKS FINN ...:smileyhappy: ]

This intruiged me - first, I was not aware we get any refurb's in UK , I thought they all went to US !
However, I did a bit of digging about this ebay seller ............
I first went to Google, and typed in Littlewoods. This took me to the (UK) Littlewoods online store. They do in fact have an online "surplus stock" outlet, at Amazon. No mention of ebay that I noticed.
But, lower down the Google main search list, another Littlewoods contact which was the ebay shop you describe.
To be frank, I wonder if there might be ............................two concerns of very similar name ?
( But, ignoring that for now, on the main ("kosher" - UK) Littlewoods site, they will sell you a NEW T1 at something like £2 a week, price is £139 - so why flog them on ebay for a lot less, {and not on their UK Amazon store} especially as they don't say they have a "shop" there on their main info page anyway ?! )
However, more digging - and digging very hard - I eventually got two nuggets of information - first, the words "US Import" and secondly, "seller refurbished". Which may raise the question as to whether any Sony warranty/guarantee/support of any kind would be, well, shall we say applicable ?
Over to you, I've learnt enough I think.......
Personally, I wouldn't touch 'em with the proverbial bargepole - but, of course, I may be completely wrong ?
As always, but especially with online stuff and ebay, "caveat emptor" or perhaps " If it sounds too good to be true .... " etc...

Hi carpetmojo, Thank you again for all your efforts and indepth help. I have edited your response to the post slightly and have had to take the email address out. Thanks again Kind Regards Finn
You specifically mentioned Littlewoods, so that was the only thing, and T1's I checked - and I still think it's a questionable source of T1's, at least. US import ? Seller refurb'd ?
No thanks......
Oh, and I may be wrong, but I don't think many T1's found their way to Waterstones, certainly, as they decided to shift all their readers - my local one never had any readers at all after the 650 was cleared.
This, of course, was before the oligarch moved in ....along with Amazon !

Bit of an negative attitude I think , I have had experience of buying refurb Reader , you havn't I would buy a new Reader in USA if I were on holiday so what's the difference. I know about the potential warranty issues but a Reader is not a lifetime buy, just to the next model comes out around 1 year later.
Anyway as I already said mine has " Refurbished by Sony UK" on the box with all the appropriate stickers etc.
so I do not understand all the reference to the US, that is just your misplaced assumption.
My experience with Sony Shops is that they are generally useless if you have any issues , so much so that there are no longer any Sony shops in Essex, they have all closed, check the Sony site I you do not believe me.
I have deleted the original discussions as I believe the will just confuse other people who may read them.
They are of no value now , all the items have sold.
