Hello @Gillian1! I moved your post to the Xperia E5 Board here on the forum, since its more suiting for your topic.
What keyboard do you use in your phone? You can see your current keyboard if you go to Settings > Languages & Input > Current Keyboard. The standard keyboard in Xperia E5 is the Swiftkey Keyboard.
I suggest that you check for updates for your keyboard. Go to Play Store > the three lines in the top left corner > My Apps and Games. See if there is a update available for Swiftkey Keyboard, and if there is, update it.
If it still doesn't work like it should, there is an option to clear data for the keyboard. You do this by going to Settings > Apps > Swiftkey Keyboard > Storage > Clear data. This will not remove anything personal in your phone, just the settings in the keyboard application.
I also recommend that you run a diagnostics test on your screen, just to be sure that the screen is fully functional. This is done by going to Settings > About Phone > Diagnostics/Support. Run the test on the touch screen to see that it reacts to your finger everywhere.
If your keyboard still doesn't behaves like it should but your screen works fine, I suggest that you restart your phone in safe mode, a mode we use to see so none of your downloaded apps are interacting with the phones functions. In safe mode, all third party applications are temporarily deactivated, but you can use all basic functions in your phone like calling, sending and receiving texts and accessing the Internet. Take a look at your keyboards behaviour in safe mode, and to exit safe mode, just restart your phone as usual.
Keep me posted! I would love to hear how it goes.
