I recently got a DSC-WX350 compact camera.
The image size is large, approx 3.6 MB, which rapidly fills up my hard disk. This image size is much larger than previous cameras. Instead of purchasing another larger SD memory card, is there any way to reduce the default image size of the default image to say 1.5MB? I cannot find anything in the manual regarding this.
Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe and welcome.
Images are already compressed so all you can do is to change the Image Size and/or the aspect ratio of the recorded image.
For still photos. your camera should be set to 4:3 and as a default will be set to Image Size = Large (this saves the image as 18 million pixels). To save them as a smaller file, set the Image Size to Medium or Small (this saves the image as 10M pixels or 5M pixels with the corresponding reduction in file size). Reducing the image size may reduce the detail saved and may make a difference if you enlarge the image. You could also change the aspect ratio to 3:2 to further reduce the file size. 3:2 is the aspect of a 35mm film negative.
Here are the instructions for changing Image Size from your camera's Help Guide online.

The larger the image size, the more detail will be reproduced when the image is printed on large-format paper. The smaller the image size, the more images can be recorded.
