Anyone know how to move video from this camera to a Windows Vista laptop? Can it be done using USB?
Hi David and welcome.
Here is the manual for your camcorder: -

Your TRV310E does not have a USB connection. The only ways to export Video are: -
1. Analogue Output from the Y/R/W Phono Jacks (See Page 112 of the manual - item 55). You will also need a USB analogue video capture device to do it this way. Something like this: -
2. Digital DV Output. If your PC has a Firewire (=iLink, =DV), you can import digital video direct from the camcorder using free software like Windows Movie Maker. The DV Out port is on the front of your camcorder - see Page 112 of the manual - item 54. You will need an iLink cable: -
Firewire will give you the best quality but you will need an iLink port on your PC or a spare PC Card slot which can be used to insert a firewire card.
If you let us know what inputs your PC has we can possibly help further.
Thanks for this - I appreciate it. The problem for me is that I do not have a firewire (iLink) connection on my Dell Inspiron laptop - I have two connecting cables with the camera one is iLink to iLink and one is iLink to USB - the only one I can connect the camera and laptop to is the iLink/USB but I just get an 'unknown USB device' error which is understandable I suppose - I don't have a pc card slot to add a firewire connection (if there is such a thing).
