Question about ''focus'' on HDR-CX570E

I have two questions regarding the use of ''focus'' on an object or a person in the video:

1. If I want to use ''focus'' on a person or an object, and ''blurr'' the other content that isn't focused, what method is the best one?

2. When I do this, I have trouble with setting the level of the ''blerred'' content (if I want it really blurred, or not so blerred, I don't know how to control this). So, how DO I control this?

Would be super with an answer.

Hi Fabian, welcome to the Sony Forums

The best way to do this is to avoid using the camera with a very wide angle of view. The more zoomed-in your shot, the more the background will blur. Sometimes this is hard to do bacause you're indoors or cannot move away from the subject, but in general as you move further away from what you are shooting and zoom in, you should get very controllable blurred backgrounds.

Another factor is how wide the aperture is. You will get best results with the shooting mode set to something like 'Twilight' or 'Portrait', which should open the lens up, and less blur with 'Landscape', which will tend to use a small aperture. Very bright light will do the same, so shoot in lower light such as shade and evening-time to get the most blurring.

Experiment a little, and get back to us if you need any more help.

Cheers

Mick

Some very helpful answers there, thank you.

Though I can't seem to find ''twilight'' or ''portrait''. Are they in there, in the camera/mic settings?
While I'm at it; I'm not able to push the ''face detection'' button. Do you have any idea why? Does it not work when you have certain settings turned on, or what's the deal?

Again, thanks for your quick last answer!

Hello chabarax

To add to what Mick was saying, all of the movie scene modes can be found by pressing MENU --> CAMERA/MIC --> CAMERA SETTINGS --> SCENE SELECTION. There is more information about these in the online user guide which can be viewed online (there seems to be an issue with posting links on here at the moment but it can be found by going to Google and searching for 'CX570 online user guide' and choosing the i-Manual link). In the same document, there is also a section about the 'Face Detection' feature and you can either set this to 'Auto' or give priority to adult or child faces. As long as one of these is selected, there should not be a problem with this function on the camera.

Thanks,

Simon
