mt2s converter

I've got a new Sony HD video camera and have downloaded my first videos using the PMB software. However they are in mt2s format - which is weird and unusable for what I want to do with it. I am finding it hard to believe that I now seemingly have to buy a converter - can anyone tell me whether I can change this formatting when I download or have I got a video camera that is incomplete in that it does not deliver standard format videos that I can simply use straight off?

Thanks in anticipation of any help!

Hi

With the nature of any AVCHD product including other brands such as Panasonic and Samsung, they all use the m2ts file format since it gives the best compression to picture quality for recording purposes. It does end up being difficult for any manufacturer to adapt this to a standard such as avi/mkv file format to be more compatible with other programs/systems. So in essence, this is a video standard for HD from a Handycam camcorder.

PMB can convert to other file formats but you lose HD quality. Ideally since HD is becoming a big thing and new file formats are being launched, you would really need to consider some higher end editing software. As mentioned before, Sony Vegas and Adobe Premier have trial versions available so you could give them a try since PMB is made to be basic.

You can change your Handycam to record in SD which then does not adopt the m2ts file format but lose HD capability.

Hope that gives you some insight.
