Looking at the support guides, it may be possible. Run through the link below and see how you get on. It looks like an older version of iMove shown but the same or similar process may still apply.

I would recommend before doing so, you finalise the disc since it will then be readable and should have no problems in being recognised.
Worst case scenario, see if you can find some DVD ripping software which should be able to extract the video from disc and store on your HDD to do what you wish.
