Hi Lucks, and welcome to the Sony forum.
Best guess is that over time the recording heads either gotten a little worn or are no longer perfectly alligned.
It certainly wouldnt be a suprise for this Handycam to start showing the odd signs of age. From memory it was released in about 1999.
If the heads are in good condition then the issue maybe to be rectified or at least improved by getting it serviced and the tape track recalibrated.
Hopefully its the latter as it would great to keep it going.
