Hi, I have a Handycam DCR H22E PAL and a Windows 7 PC. How can I get the video from the camera onto the PC (to burn to DVD)? I tried just plugging in the USB, and the driver here, but nothing, it either doesn't recognise it or it thinks it's a 'Composite USB Device'. Thanks if you can help
Hi MGB2012 and welcome.
Unfortunately, the USB connection is not supported with Vista/Windows 7/8 (only with XP).
The only digital transfer supported by Windows is the iLink (firewire) output. If your PC has a firewire input (or has a PC Card or ExpressCard Slot which can accept a firewire card) then no drivers are required and your video can be imported using something like the free Windows Movie Maker.
If your PC does not have the possibility of a firewire input, you will have to use the analogue output from the camera (Yellow/Red/White) and purchase a USB Video Capture Device. Something like this would do : -
Thanks for the reply. To be honest I don't have a clue: how do I know if my PC has a firewire input (or has a PC Card or ExpressCard Slot which can accept a firewire card?
Regarding the analogue output, will that give me a decent quality, and will I need drivers? Will the quality(price) of the USB video capture device affect the quality of the video?
Thanks
