DCR SR35E Connection & Night Vision Issues

I recently acquired a second hand DCR SR 35E Camcorder, but it will not connect to my laptop, with an error message popping up saying The Device Has Malfunctioned And Windows Does Not Recognize the device.

The Night Vision "Bulb" by the lense also is not working, failing to switch on when the mode is activated.

Are these problems with the drive on the camera, and if so, how much will it cost to repair, and where can I do this in Essex? It is quite annoying.

Hi I would first test the DCR-SR35E on another PC to check if it has a fault or not, as far as Night Vision is concerned you would not see a light, it works on infer red spectrum and may not be seen by your eyes. a good way to test is with a camera or camera phone, they can see this ok.

A friend of mine has the same camera, and next to the lense (under the red cover thing) a little red bulb lights up when night vision is active and the screen goes almost all green. Mine does neither of those things.

As for the PC, have tried in on three and all have the same error message. Did write to Sony asking for a repair quote but heard nothing back from them (this was almost 2 weeks ago.)
