DCR-PC8e camcorder

Who here has an experience with the issue of not being able to use the PC8e camcorder on newer laptop models because of the camcoder not supporting USB?

What has been your solution please, I phoned Sony who are telling me I can only use a PC8e on a computer with windows XP only and only with an ilink cable, there is nothing for converting from ilink to USB?

Isn't it sad?

Sadly, the way things are going, there are going to be limitations with older products so I agree in that sense. The way Microsoft took Windows with both Vista and 7 was that these types of products would no longer function via USB as they did on older operating systems which affected quite a few brands that had adopted a USB taped based camcorder.

So in essence, trying to create a new USB driver to bypass the way the operating system recognises these devices is harder than people thought as the OS would be unable to recognise or allow the video stream to function correctly.

There are iLink to USB adaptors out there but have never tried one so I would be unable to say how well it would work. If you have a laptop, you might have an express card slot which you can buy a firewire card which slots in and gives you the port which you would need.

Hope that gives you some insight.

Thanks my friend, sounds like I have to sit with this Sony product and have noting to do with it. It's sad.
