Trying to get my DCR-TRV20E to work with new Dell Studio XPS desktop. Win7/64bit/ 16Gbmem. new PC!
Connect via firewire/iLink cable to USB,
Device not recognised.
According to compatability chart this should be OK.
Help anybody?
Do you really mean iLink to USB?
Have you tried an iLink to iLink cable?
iLink is the same as FireWire.
I have a mini 4pin version that according to Sony is correct.
I was hoping to connect to the PC with this cable, (which is USB at the other end.) as there is no miniFW connection on the computer.
I was going to attempt to download a pile of family Video8 stuff onto my PC, but cant do that...
So the next option was link a V8Camcorder to my DV one, (that does a good A-D conversion,) then dump the resulting tape to the PC so I can edit it a bit before burning to DVD and handing original tapes back to daughter with the resultant DVD.
Messy I know.
I am aware that iLink is the same as firewire. I was asking if your cable was iLink at both ends.
Your camcorder is only supported by Windows 7 through iLink - you need an iLink unput to the computer. It will not work through USB.
So much for the guy in the shop who sold me iLink to USB!
I have ordered a iLink to 'Normal' FW from eBay.
I was rummaging round my 'Comes In Handy' box and found a 3 port FW card.
lets see where that gets me.
Do you know if it also Xfers sound at the same time?
It should transfer the whole file - sound and video.
Hope you get it working!!
When I get the new cable I will know more.
I will close this thread, Thanks for that.
