I tried several apps (players), and no passthrough audio over SPDIF (5.1 dolby digital or DTS 5.1). Only work with NOVA media player
Not working VLC, MX PLAYER, TIVI IPTV, EXO player, KODI ......
Is there any chance to resolve this issue
Greetings
These are 3rd-party apps, have you tried using one that "advertises" this feature or the default installed one?
Same apps work on other Android TV device (MI Box). When i play media on BOX, i get spdif passthrough even through SONY optical out. The problem is when I start apps on TV, so it's SONY error.
I don't have default apps, except some media player that dont't have any advanced option (SMB, IPTV, EPG ...)
@vlado974 It might just be related to permissions, non-native apps having less permissions than native ones for security reasons, while the box you have having no such restriction.
That said, have you tried reaching out to any of the dev supports?

If you mean root acess, i don't have root on MI Box. I didn't have contacted devs, dont know where to contact. Even if i contact them, what can i doo. I cannot change kodi, or any third party app. Devs need to adapt there code to standard android API, so third party app to work, or they must make MEDIA player app that have all feautures that we need (mutiformat IPTV streaming. ,EPG, audiopassthrough ... , something like TIVI, KODI, .....)
Hi vlado974, any third party apps(not pre-installed on the TV) are not guaranteed to work the same way onSony TVs as the pre-installed.
passthrough on KODI works for sure. Maybe not 100% perfect but it is usable. You just need to set it properly inside KODI. For other apps can't say much, did try MX player and VLC and could not get passthrough to work. And think that works with emby also but it was a long time ago since I tried that.
Passthrough on KODI don't work. Work only transcoding, that way you get multichannel. Transcoding= loose of audio quality of Dolby and no DTS at all (DTS transcoded to DD)
I get Android TV, I expect that all aps works as they should. That's the reason i don't get custom OS's like Samsung, LG ....
Hi,
Have you tried a connection without the SPDIF ?
