When playing back recordings made on a USB HDD we get missing frames where the screen goes black for a split second. This can be every few minutes or every few seconds. This only happens on playback, not when watching live TV.
KD43XG8096BU with WD Elements HDD connected to blue USB port
I can confirm my KD43XH8505 also has the same problem. (with WD Elements HDD 2TB) I would imagine this may have something to do with the implimentation of MotionFlow (even if appears switched off?) as the clearness setting states that black frames are inserted to increase clarity? I'm disppointed at having another issue on top of audio problems using an AV receiver.
I'll report this new issue to Sony Support to add to the chorus !
Is it still not working on the new Android 9 update?
I've updated my XF9005 to Android 9 but haven't yet recorded anything to see if the problem is still there.
I've only found time to watch a known recording that exhibits the problem and it still has the issue, but this could be because it has recorded that way while on the previous firmware. I do need to find time to record and HD programme and watch it back.
Handyandyxf9005: The version of the software installed on both my TVs is PKG6.4774.061EUA which the TVs report as being the latest available. I couldn't find any menu option which reports the Android version.
What model is your TV?
Depending on what version of Android you are on its found 1 of 2 ways.
1. Home > settings > about.
2. Home > settings > device preferences > about.
It should have a box that says 'Version'
I have this issue. Version 9, 2 month old XH81. Very annoying.
All I can suggest at the moment is to contact Sony support and raise the issue. I've been told it's going to get fixed by a software update but don't know when.
Did your xh comes with android 9 and it's always had the problem?
Yes, version 9 out of the box, the issue from day one. Only HD recordings it seems...
The black flashes, for me anyway, seem to happen between scene changes on the tv show. If that makes sense!
Thanks Handyandyxf9005, it's Android version 9. The two Sony Android TVs we have are a KD43XH8505 and a. KD-49XH9505. Both TVs have been bought within the past two months and both have alwayz had this problem with HDD recordings.
It does seem to only affect HD recordings, SD recordings are fine but then I bought the TV to watch HD not SD!
I don't think the problem only happens between scene changes. Interestingly I recorded another episode of the BBC1 Have I Got News for You TV programme and the flicker occurred at around the same point in the opening moments of the programme. The people on the panel of this programme change for each episode so the opening moments are newly recorded by the TV company. The high saturation red studio lighting is similar for each episode.
I know what you mean by scene changes. It is difficult to say what it is but sometimes you feel like you know when it is going to happen like in an action scene or when there are lots of quick scene changes. Other times it is random. Agree with everyone else though in that it is only HD that is affected.
