I got fed up with the several Android issues of my KD-49XD7005... (especially the WiFi speed from SMB shares - 4K files not playable)
So I went and purchased an Nvidia Shield and what a revelation:
- Android Oreo (released a month ago) - great interface!
- All 4K movies play from my Windows shares just fine over WiFi (ac) (even those that require ~120Mbits speed!)
- Plex server - yes SERVER - is built in and transcodes with H264 HW acceleration! The amazing thing is that the Plex service continues to run (and serve) even after the Shield is turned off!
- Youtube videos play at 4K @60 without a hinch! Amazing quality!
- Kodi @4k flawesly!
- Full Dolby & DTS passthrough to my HT-XT1 soundbar from Kodi...
What a machine! Great implementation!

Don't think so. Tegra SoC has no VP9.2 decoder. But it for sure plays VP9 2160p60 very well.

Just compare specs of the Tegra SoC inside SHIELD with the MediaTek one in Sony... Plus the MediaTek drivers are buggy as hell. Sony ATV certainly is no good media player.
I know the specs. HDR on YouTube is VP9.2 which Tegra does not support. What you are seeing are the VP9 SDR streams there.
Doesn't matter though. On a XD70, SDR will look better most of the time anyway...
Yes you are correct!
